Entertainment Weekly Interview With Renny
'Big Brother 10''s Renny: EW's exit interview
Sep 5, 2008, 01:34 PM | by Lynette Rice
Categories: 'Big Brother'
EW.com spoke to Big Brother 10 evictee Renny Martyn, the 53-year-old beauty salon owner from New Orleans, about everything from her classy exit to her eccentric wardrobe (but sadly, we couldn’t talk to her about Gustav, because for some screwy reason CBS thinks she doesn’t need to know about another hurricane back home).
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: I am crestfallen that you’re out of the house.
RENNY MARTYN: Not as much as I am.
You were priceless on your way out. You’re the only houseguest so far to take the time to shake everybody’s hand.
They looked like a bunch of Christmas trees all lit up when I saw them. It was amazing. I never experienced anything like that.
Why the hell did Jerry say you did “wonders for the food” in that exit video?
Jerry is a horse’s ass. Come on. He is! Jerry and I never really got along. He’s so boring. Honey, the only thing an old man can do for me is to bring a message from a younger man. He wasn’t my kind of person.
How did he treat the women in the house?
At first, he thought he struck gold with the young women who were sitting on his lap, but they were just using him because he was HOH. He was getting a little frisky but it didn’t last long. To me he was a dirty old man. He didn’t really [give me a hard time], but if he did I probably would be out of the house. He did point his finger in people’s faces all the time but he couldn’t do that to me.
NEXT: Renny's outfits, her love of candy bars, and her take on April...
On the website, CBS says you are a beauty shop owner, but in the house, you said you were retired. Why?
I didn’t want them to know I owned a business. It was just for game’s sake.
It was a welcome change to see two mature players like yourself and Jerry in the house. But seriously...how did you manage to hang in there with those young idiots? Did you want to blow your head off?
The reason I got this far was that I got in the mix with the younger people -- unlike Jerry, who everyone was trying to get away from. Even me. When he’d come out, I’d go in.
Was anyone ageist in any way to you?
Many times people couldn’t believe my age. I think that’s what helped me in the game. They really don’t know me. I can party with the best of them.
So how many outfits did you bring to the house?
I only brought one boa but I brought eight sequin caps. I had quite a wardrobe, and a lot of accessories -- but they are priceless to me because I bought them over time.
Do you really eat candy bars in your sleep?
I ate a lot of candy in that house. Actually I like piece of candy at night. I was awake (when she ate that Almond Joy in bed). The others thought I was sleepwalking. I was just choking their chain. I was awake, listening to their conversation.
You did spar a lot with Dan. What did you really think of him?
He’s sneaky but I like Dan. Sometimes I didn’t. He said something derogatory about my loving my son more than my daughter and I spanked his behind real hard. My hand hurt bad. Dan is infatuated with older women. I don’t think he should get married soon. He needs to sow his wild oats.
What did you mean when you said to Julie that Dan ends up in your bed?
He was always in my bed talking. He asked to sleep with me once and I told him to get out of here, boy!
Once and for all, if it's 8:40 a.m. here in Los Angeles, what time is it in New Orleans?
It would be six hours behind. So it would be 10:40 a.m. there.
Early in the season, we saw Jessie have a meltdown because of your late night squealing. Talk about that fight with him.
He was a goofball. He was very immature, obviously. It wasn’t anything. The light was totally out and there were suitcases on the floor. I couldn’t see. I’m older. I didn’t want to break a leg but I tripped over a suitcase. I screamed. He said I woke him up. I apologized in the bathroom but he made such a big deal out of it. That’s why I can’t stand the colonel [the house's nickname for Jerry]. He never let me explain what happened. But he let the young guy explain.
Who’s the person you are least looking forward to seeing in the jury house?
April. I don’t like her. She’s an OCD freak. She’s not very nice. She was always throwing my leftovers away. I like leftovers. She’d say nobody would eat them. She has problems.
Do you have any old business to take care of when you see Libra, April, Michelle and Ollie?
Nope. I’m not going to get into any. They all lie. I don’t believe anything anymore. It doesn’t matter what they said. I’ll pull up, say "here’s another loser," so they can all have a laugh

Last Minute Primping

The feeds just went down, but we got a few minutes of them primping for the show. Renny had a few seconds alone with Keesha, and told her "I just want you to know I appreciate everything you've done for me. I'm really glad I met you." Keesha responded that the feelings were mutual. "I don't know what I would have done without you.
Dan was complaining about not being able to do anything with his hair, and then hid in the bedroom to read his letter from Monica. Jerry, of course, had to have one last whine, and as usual Keesha had to endure it. "Memphis and Dan ignore me and walk past me like I don't exist. I can swing the vote in the jury house. Have some courtesy." Keesha just says she didn't notice.
Poor Renny

It's just hours away from the live show, and they're all stuck together in the HOH while the crew sets up the house. While everybody fights off falling asleep, Renny is concerned about something she thinks was left in the oven.
I'm going to miss the old girl, and I'm happy that the producers gave her a bottle of wine to share with Keesha last night. I have a feeling it's going to be pretty emotional tonight.

Renny's Last Supper

"We're Together Whether We Like It Or Not"

Keesha just spent time upstairs with Jerry, where he laid out a plan for her to carry him to the finals. You know the spiel - he's been alone from the beginning; everybody has turned on him; his word is golden. He added that he set up the situation with the veto to show where everybody's loyalties lie, and his only hope is for Dan and Memphis to be split up.
Keesha is now downstairs with Renny; not really revealing much but enough that Renny sort of knows what's going on. Keesha seems to be giving this some thought, although that could change as soon as Memphis sweet-talks her. Oooh, Jerry is standing outside listening in on the conversation.

"Is This a Japanese Restaurant?"

Jerry was determined to eat outside, so they rearranged the furniture to create a makeshift outdoor eating area. Renny was in the diary room during some of this time, which delayed the dinner a bit, and was surprised by what they came up with. "Is this a Japanese restaurant?"
"Either this, or we sit inside like always", replied Chef Memphis. Jerry's literally begging for more beer. Earlier, when he was screaming at Big Brother, Renny asked Dan and Memphis if he had Tourette's. God, I'm going to miss her.
"Keesha turned out a lot smarter than I was expecting"

That quote's from Memphis, as they celebrate making final four and begin figuring out what needs to happen next week. It's all about the veto, and Dan says they have a 3-1 advantage...unless Keesha makes a deal with Jerry. Well, wasn't the numbers game supposed to give them HOH this week?
You have to love Renny, though. Instead of wallowing in her own self-pity, she's spent the last few minutes trying to cheer up Keesha.
Feeds Back

No surprise - Memphis used the veto to save Dan. Renny's taking it fairly well, and just told Dan and Memphis that she's not going to walk around all depressed. Keesha's a bit emotional, and Jerry is silently stewing. Dan and Memphis somehow believe they can still keep the "Renegade" alliance secret. Good luck with that.
Happy 25th Birthday Dan.

Today is Dan's Birthday.
Right now everyone is sleeping but my guess is that besides the cake that Renny made for him, Memphis will be giving him the best present of all by pulling him off the nomination block and thus saving him from eviction on Thursday.
The feeds JUST went to the fish cam so they are most likely getting their wake up call.
Besides Jerry falling into the pool yesterday everyone but Jerry had a late night pillow fight that might make the air and we discovered that Memphis is very ticklish. Renny had quite a fun time climbing all over him and tickling him.
Wonder how people would have felt if Renny was a 50 something year old guy and Memphis a 20 something woman. For some reason I think it might have raised a few eyebrows - lol.

Renny Approaches Memphis (Finally)

After bothering Keesha for the last 24 hours about Memphis' plan for the veto, Renny finally asked directly asked him. She turned on the charm, claiming that she's always "always thought good things of you as a person, even if we were never that close".
Memphis responded that he still hasn't decided what he's going to do, and that's it a touch decision as it's hard to determine who to trust.

It's Now Confirmed

Nobody has really said exactly what happened last night, but there's rumors that Memphis threw it for Dan. Renny is pissed, and won't talk to either of them. Keesha just said that they now know that one of them is going home.
It is too bad for them, but if this is true it is good game play as both Memphis and Dan make it through the week. Hey, one of the four has to go home this week.
EDIT: MEMPHIS DID WIN! He's now chatting with Dan to ensure there's no "future antics" if he saves him.

Nobody Feels Safe

I have to say this about Dan and Keesha. They're not wallowing in their misery, yelling expletives at the person who put them up. There's no conspiracy talk, thank God. Yes, "it sucks", as Keesha so eloquently put it (to the haters, that's sarcasm), but they've already moved on to general small talk.
Yet Memphis and Renny don't feel any better, as they know one of them will go up if either of the nominees wins the veto. Keesha thinks if she wins, then Renny will go up, and Memphis would take the place of Dan if that's how it plays out.
Jerry And Renny

Jerry is holding court with everybody. Renny just came up, and immediately Jerry asked her, "how about we talk about a scenario where you don’t go on the block?"
Renny doesn’t respond, so Jerry has to for her. "Why don’t you ask what I want in return?"
"Ok, Jerry, what do you want?"
"I want to control your vote." He goes on and on about how Dan needs to go, and Keesha is going up with him to ensure the vote. "I'm playing smart."
Prior to this, Jerry spent 20 minutes lecturing Dan on how wrong he was to go against Ollie and him.

Uh Oh!

All day long, Renny and Keesha have been indicating that they're possibly starting to believe Michelle and Ollie's stories. The fact that Jerry hasn't approached them is leading them to believe he has a pact with Dan, even though NOBODY has seen the two of them talk. Ollie was even sociable to Keesha for a few minutes, although they mainly talked about religion and relationships. Dan and Memphis have noticed this situation, and plan on talking to the two later tonight.

Dan and Renny

We had 20 minutes or so of fish after Ollie called Dan a "faggot", and we've returned to Renny visiting Dan in the HOH. Dan asked if he did the right thing today, and Renny said "yes". She does question if it had to be done in such a dramatic, controversial fashion, but they now all have to just move forward. She also asked him why they don't believe his pictures are real, and his only answer is that he appears slightly bigger in his football picture.
Dan also asked if Michelle has approached him for a vote, and Renny confirmed that she had. She says that she just told Michelle that she's too tired to talk right now, but she says that it was hard to look at the desperation in her eyes. The both agree that as the numbers dwindle, they'll have to start evicting people that they really care about. "I like Michelle but she is a fierce competitor, like April was."
