CBS Announces Big Brother 12 for Summer 2010

Block out another 2 1/2 months of your summer addicts. After posting the highest numbers of the season is it any shock that CBS is bankrolling a 12th season of Big Brother?

I wonder if Allison will try going back to the well and hauling in 12-14 non winners from previous seasons as was one suggestion - or perhaps a whole new crop of HGs yet again?

Here is a portion of the press release from CBS:

Less than a week before the two-hour finale of "Big Brother 11," CBS is already making plans for Big Brother 12. The network announced today it has ordered another edition of the hit reality series for broadcast in the summer 2010.

The three-times-a-week series has once again turned into a summer sensation, growing its audience both on-air and online for the CBS Television Network and CBS Interactive platforms.

BIG BROTHER 11 is one of only a handful of programs to post growth in its 10th season. Compared to last summer, BIG BROTHER 11 is up +7% in viewers (7.08m from 6.60m), +4% in adults 18-49 (2.5/08 from 2.4/07) and +5% in adults 18-34 (2.0/07 from 1.9/06). Each of the three weekly broadcasts are also posting summer-to-summer growth.

Online, BIG BROTHER 11 is the Number One show on CBS.com and across the CBS Audience Network in all key metrics with 25% more unique users and 94% more video streams than last summer. CBS.com also logged a record 11.6 million votes when Jeff was awarded the "Coup d'État" Power.

Now that I read that... lets see... last summer was a bad one for BB because we were burned out from the winter version. But nice spin from CBS ;)

I'll be watching.

I hate the idea of retreads.!

Please CBS and Big Brother...let us have some fresh talent and some new faces.

Give us a break from the retread bullshit!

I heard Season 12 will be it for the show!

I really doubt they will kill a cash cow like BB. Maybe Allison will call it quits but I am sure someone else will step up to the plate.

They don't mention how last Sunday the ratings dropped by half after Jeff was evicted. They need to cast a lot better the next time around and avoid any past HG's. This seasons cast was dull and bringing meathead back was awful.

Yea the cast was really bad this season, thats why ratings were off the charts. Once all the good guys where eliminated, nobody really cared so they just kelp coming back to see the bad guys take it up the rear(lol). Maybe CBS should stick to that formula. They always can rig the game at the end to get who they want to win it and keep america happy

yes the cast stink on the whole. this exactly what happened to the Real World. they had a season like they did in Vegas and it garnered alot of attention from the media and had a huge audience. so they decided to change how the show worked and kept casting to capture that same dynamic, but never did. they just went further and further away from the concept that got them the initial attention to get the new fans, but as we see with that show the fans didnt stay and it has suffered since. i just hope BB doesnt follow the same path

Personally, I like to see more allstars with the best players coming back but even then, CBS would bring back the players that the fans liked the best and really arent that good of game players. You would be much better off bringing back some of the villians that are going keep us pissed off at them up in the house because that is what keeps these boards jumping and people watching anyway. Everybody needs somebody to hate. Thats just the way it goes

I don't remember who suggested this, but I remember reading on twitter for a season with nothing but the first people evicted from previous seasons. I think that would be somewhat interesting, even if it was expanded to people evicted within the first two weeks. They'd all have the same shared experience of being inside the house, but wouldn't have the advantage (or baggage) of personal history or notorious moments.

Well, the UK version is going to be shut down after next year, if I read correctly.

A season of first one outs? Why not? At least they wouldn't be recruiting completely clueless people.

But bringing back one or two? Well, we saw how that tilted things with Jesse worship. And really, the argument against retreads is that they had their shot. Rightly or wrongly, they already played. Survivor tried a 50/50 fans v. previous players and the previous players quickly disposed of most of the fans. Retreads have too many advantages.

Now, if they go back to choosing only people who apply rather than recruiting, that would be nice. There have to be enough interesting fans in the pool to populate the house for years.

Oh, completely off topic, but only because a topic hasn't been created here yet: looks like round 2 will involve some sort of skill game rather than intellect or knowledge (which should level things for Jordan, put Nat at a disadvantage... I'm sure this was on the schedule back on day one, right?)

AName said...

lmao@ U Cal. I say right, that was on the schedule(lol)

First time evictees would work for me too. You could also could do winners and runner ups too but that would be hard because too many runner-ups where carried to the finish line because they were bad players.

I'd say the producers made three horrible errors this year (besides casting):

1. The cliques. Besides forcing people together that didn't care for each other, the fact that a HOH kept up to four other people safe led to some interesting people being eliminated right away along with a lot of floaters who lasted longer than they deserved.

2. The returning HG and their free week as HOH. Yes, I don't like Jessie, but I would have felt the same no matter who would have ended up gaining a spot in the show. They had so many advantages (except for if Cowboy had made it in - lol). This person had a huge advantage, at least for the first few weeks.

3. The competitions. Lame, lame, lame. If they weren't direct retreads of last year's contests, they were contests that were nothing but luck. The ball in the cup was a perfect example, but that extended through most of them up to last week's true/false on what the first evictees have done since leaving was nothing but luck. Hell, Jordan actually led until the very end.

Um, AName, I was being cynical...

After Jordan's last tries at questions (didn't understand the directions??), I think this practice game was fabricated in under a day and they're busy fabricating something a bit better for air.

And I'd be shocked (shocked I tell you) if the original project schedule for this season had the F3 in there until Finale.

Ratings, folks. If Jordan got dumped before Finale the ratings would certainly have taken another hit. So even if she loses Round 2, Jordan is still in the house to the very end.

You're forgetting that they did a skeet ball competition last year for the second round. Or maybe it was just late in the game, as Jerry came close to winning (I believe).

I stand corrected. Thanks for keeping me honest :).

I don't think they will do anther All-Stars...yet. They only have 4 seasons to choose from. If they don't go back to season 1. However, that would be a lot of people. Probably some repeats from Season 7 too.

AName said...

Its good that you were being cynical Cal because you have every reason to be because its the truth and we all know it

AName said...

Naw the competition rounds were not about no skeetball. It was the standing on the plane endurance first and about names and events of the house like Kevin and Natalie was saying for the final 2 rounds. This skeetball thing is strictly for Jordan because she couldnt win at nothing else. plain and simple

I think they did use skeetball earlier which is fine but to use it now is bullshit. I can tell you how this is going to end but it doesnt matter becasue as long as you are happy you dont care anyway. I hope she do win so everybody can be happy for a day or 2 and leave their hatred where it belongs.. LOL
